A doctor will most likely recommend physical therapy and an anti-inflammatory to help alleviate the pain in between the shoulder and elbow. Anti-inflammatory medications will also help to decrease the swelling.
If at any point the symptoms do not improve or get worse, then you should consult a doctor. Your doctor will perform a diagnostic test called arthroscopy to look for potential shoulder and acromion damage. Arthroscopy can be done as an outpatient procedure with no overnight stay in the hospital.
