Choosing the right colours for your logo not only makes your brand more recognizable, but also helps attract new customers. Choosing colours for design is one of the most important things in the visual development process for a brand. By choosing the right colour, the brand logo will be easier for many audiences to remember, making the branding process easier. Vice versa, when the colour selection for the logo uses an inappropriate combination, the audience will not be interested in the brand. So, what should you pay attention to when choosing the right logo colour?

1.Understand Each Colour

Before starting to choose colours for your logo, understand the meaning of each colour first. This is because colours can have different emotional influences on humans. Here are examples:

  • Red

The red colour is a universal sign that symbolizes joy, passion and anger. This colour can be used if the brand has a fun, modern and contemporary image.

  • Orange

The orange colour is refreshing and fun. Using this colour can make the logo look more prominent and give an energetic impression. However, this colour is not suitable if you want to create a brand with a luxurious or serious image.

  • Yellow

Yellow reflects friendliness and cheerfulness. So, this colour will be suitable for brands that want to radiate youthful energy. But yellow cannot be used to give a mature or luxurious impression. So, avoid using yellow if the brand wants to emphasize this impression.

  • Green

The green colour is called versatile because it can be used by almost every type of business. This colour represents natural things so it is often used by environmentally friendly products. However, the green colour also has different meanings according to culture.

  • Blue

Blue symbolizes trust and maturity. That’s why this colour is suitable for brands with a serious image. If your brand is in the food industry, avoid a blue logo. The reason is, this colour can suppress appetite.

2.Mix and Match Different Colours

After knowing the meanings of colours, you can start to decide which the best colours suit your brand values. Not only using one colour, you can also combine several colours at once. This is useful for showing the brand’s uniqueness.

3.Consider the Context

Colour is contextual so you need to pay attention to choose colours that suit the context. For example, colours in cultural contexts will vary. In many western cultures the white colour is a symbol of purity. However, in some eastern cultures the white colour is associated with death. That’s why when choosing colours you need to consider many things starting from the industry, cultural context, to the target audience.

4.Highlight Uniqueness

Colour plays an important role in highlighting the uniqueness of a logo. No matter how good the design is, if the colours are not attractive the logo will not look unique. Choosing colours for your logo is not just about expressing who your company is, but what makes it unique. This uniqueness can be highlighted by colour because colour is the most basic means of visual communication. Apart from choosing colours that match the brand image, also choose colours that can connect the brand and the audience.

5.The Simpler the Better

A simple logo can also be more attractive. Simple here is not only from the choice of colour, but also from the shape of the logo itself. An example is the Nike logo which only uses one colour, namely black and its shape resembles a check mark. Logos with simple colours and shapes also have the advantage of being easier to apply to various objects of any size.
